Let the room go quiet

Let the room go quiet

The body is weary, but the mind won't rest. The lights go out and the thoughts begin: the conversation, the list, the small worry turning over and over in the dark.

Sleep cannot be chased. It comes when it is invited. So let us make the room ready for it, the way you would turn down a bed for someone you love.

An hour before, let the house grow dim. Lamps instead of bright overheads. Small, warm pools of light.

Fill the Brass Oil Burner with water, add a few drops of Dream Diffuser Oil and light the small flame beneath. Let lavender, mandarin and chamomile drift through the bedroom while you ready yourself for rest. Blow it out before you sleep.

Leave the phone in another room. Let it keep its own company tonight.

As you lie down, mist your pillow with Dream Botanical Mist, and feel chamomile, frankincense and Tasmanian lavender settle into the linen.

Breathe in slowly. Breathe out even slower, longer than the in-breath, like a sigh you have been holding all day. Again. And again. Until you lose count.

If something keeps circling, write it in the notebook by your bed. Let the page hold it. It will still be there in the morning, and you won't have to carry it through the night.

Some nights sleep will be slow to come. Let that be okay. Lying in the dark, eyes closed, breathing softly, you are still resting.
